Nicole studied Screen Production and Drama Directing at the University of Auckland, and established Huia Films after graduating.
Initially specialising in promotional videos, the focus shifted in recent years to documentary and narrative filmmaking. Her Masters film'The Huia' showed at festivals in New Zealand and internationally; a short documentary 'Forgotten Dresses' (produced by Karalisa Dantas) screened in the Auckland Heritage Festival 2012; Nicole directed the short film 'Whistleblower' (produced by Arielle Sullivan) which screened in the Show Me Shorts Film Festival 2015 and on Rialto Channel.
In 2014 Nicole co-founded Waking Dream Collective with Ghazaleh Golbakhsh and Mojan Javadi to support female and minority filmmakers. For more info on this great initiative and our projects visit www.wakingdream.co.nz
In 2015 Nicole travelled to Nepal with cameraman Stefan Coetzee and sound recordist Alani Lewis for Nicole's latest documentary, which follows a team of optometrists trekking into the earthquake-devastated Everest Region to carry out basic eye testing in the villages and schools. 'Eyes for Everest' is due for release late 2017.
Nicole has also crewed as cast assistant and PA on a number of industry productions including The Shannara Chronicles, Roman Empire, 6 Days, Ghost in the Shell, Meg, and Adrift.
Needless to say, there are other projects in the pipeline...
